The CCIA Fleet consists of members’ boats, sailing, and power, which fly the distinctive green and white burgee. Active and Social members may join the fleet by registering their boat(s) with the club manager and by paying the fleet membership fee.
The aim of the fleet is to promote the enjoyment of boating by one and all, young and old, novice and expert, and towards that end, the fleet sponsors many events. The CCIA fleet hosts a racing series and annual regatta, held during the club’s summer season. There are two classes: the Christmas Cove 21 class, which operates as a one-design class, and the Viking Class, which is open to any sailboat interested in racing on a handicap basis.
The Saturday races provide a venue for experienced sailors to welcome those with less familiarity with the sport; young sailors currently or previously taking opti or 420 racing classes are often asked to join by crewing on 21’s or Viking class boats. In this way, the fleet is an integral part of the club’s commitment to teaching and promoting sailing as a lifetime activity.
In addition, the CCIA fleet organizes power-boat events such as weekend gams, fun for families with children young and old, and overnight cruises, for power boaters wishing to travel in tandem to some of Maine’s wonderful anchorages.
The CCIA welcomes non-member sailors, with boat, to join the CCIA races. Those interested should contact the address below.
